EMPI (Flying Swallow)
"The distinctive motion of this kata is an upper level attack following which one grasps the opponent and draws him inward, simultaneously jumping in and attacking again. The movement resembles the up and down and flipping away flight of a swallow".
(Gichin Funakoshi, The Master Text)
I've been lucky to train with sensei Kawasoe in 2011 and will train with him again later this month. The man is simply a master of the art. Ossu!!

notice how he does the kata slow, but every technique is still strong and powerfull and able to fend off an attack (in theory)

When someone is that high of a level in shotokan, they don't need very low stances to generate power anymore. It comes from muscle contraction, breathing, internal focus, hip snap and positioning, and foot grip.

Ha ha That has got to be one of the funniest posts I have ever read. I am sure Kawasoe Sensei would appreciate your feedback.

Good kata. But i think the stances are too high, he needs to lower them, zenkutsu and kiba-dachi to gain more power.=)
