India's industrial revolution leads to a lot of pollution and a lot of waste, but its large population exerts forces that do not support the wasteful, one-time appropriation of resources. With such a large population and with extremely wide gradient of social circumstances India has developed its own, most unique method of total recycling.
Through my work in India I was introduced to many children who find work sifting through piles of trash collecting everything from used notepads to scraps of rubber. Each sorted separately is bought by their respective industries and ultimately no scrap is left untouched.
Here is a pictorial documentary on the work of manual paper production. The paper produced is 100% recycled through the process of shredding up used paper and sending it through the featured process.
