This demo, is just a cracking root password with john the ripper from openwall, under os similar to ubuntu 9.04, and probably karmic, etc

  • just open your shell...

  • you need to go in the folder who is the bin of john (in "run", and ./john )

  • @sbkhaan1 Go into the John Directory and Delete the "John.pot" file. That file is created every time you crack the hashes. If that doesn't do the trick restart the machine after you delete the .pot file.

  • so I have everything installed and it just says "Loaded 2 password hashes with 2 different salts (generic crypt(3) [?/64]"

    Where do I go from there?

  • @blacksiddis If it is the same file, then John probably saved it after it was cracked, so the hash is now gone. (pass in place of hash)

  • I cracked a password once and it worked perfectly but but i tried cracking it again with JTR and now it says No Password Hashes Loaded (and they are)

    any suggestions?
