Maybe it's a smoggy sunset or the unsafe for swimming sign posted at your favorite beach.
Maybe it's the homeless woman lying in a heap downtown.
Maybe it's the crowded classrooms at your child's school.
Or maybe it's knowing that 1 in 3 high school students won't graduate with their peers.
Maybe it's another evening ruined, wasted, stolen by the gridlock that never ever goes away.
Maybe it's that hospital bill that finally came in the mail. A bill so big that the possibility of paying it seems so remote, you can only cry.
Maybe it's just the numbers:
1 in 5 California kids living in poverty
1.4 million California without a job
13 million more people expected to call California home by 2030
Maybe it's the giant black hole in the state budget. And the politicians who bicker & bicker & bicker, but fail to fix it.
Or maybe it's just that sinking feeling that life for your kids won't be wont be as good, safe, easy as it has been for you.
Whatever it is something tells you that California is in trouble. That our Golden State is slipping, struggling, scrambling to keep its footing in a world that will not wait.
And yet
You have hope.
You have hope because while it may be ailing, California is not just anyplace. No.
California is a place of plenty people, purpose, passion, ideas, initiative, diversity. Its the rim of the continent; a powerhouse of business, tourism, entertainment, agriculture, cyberspace, aerospace.
California is still a beacon, a dynamic place that nurtures potential and rewards innovation.
Yes, we are on shaky ground.
Yes, it's time to move beyond our storied heritage and make new history.
Don't be afraid, be a force. A force for change for a new California. The next California. Your California.
You know in your heart the time is now.
