HA! Windsor will never have anything to do with any kind of "Super City"
-
The narrorator said that costs remain low for building mass inner-city transportation in Canada's main street (401 corridor). Sure and Canada has missed out on that 42 years ago and all they can do is widen the 401 from Toronto to Windsor and further east past Port Hope. And they are still widening the 401 in Mississauga from Mavis Rd. to highway 410. Canada has fallen behind on rapid transit devellopment.

Woe is me! Bad online news this morning has it that plans for high-speed transportation among cities here in America have been scrapped! And here I suffered under the delusion that certainly by now we'd see a high-speed connection between San Diego and San Francisco. Say, weren't the Japanese supposed to assist in this plan?

@tjmfishing Canadian invention? Why does the name Sikorsky keep poppin' up in my mind? Didn't this biggie have something to do with the R&D? Ahead of its time? You bet!! And whatta ride.

@LOTIL62 You nailed it with "working out teething issues." They certainly could've done a little more to work out kinks. It's kinda hard to believe that this same remarkable piece of engineering went on to become a success in Canada and not here. And you know, I have the same feelings about another piece of remarkable piece of engineering, Boeing's hydrofoil which didn't take off in the US but used successfully in the Orient, Macao, I believe. Oh, well, c'est la vie!

@ccaammiiittoo1 I wonder if it had something to do with the shape of the trackage in the US at the time (a lot of the eastern roads especially had tracks in terrible shape I heard, Penn Central in Particular), as well as freight taking priority on the host tracks in quite a few cases. AMTK possibly didn't give it enough time for all the teething issues to be worked out too (recall that early on, it was horribly unreliable). A shame, it was an awesome piece of engineering. :(

I took the Turbo many times between Providence and Boston in the 70s and was always amazed by what seemed to me an update of the Zephyr, another smooth riding, before its time, bullet train of the 30s. When it banked I always enjoyed the feeling of uprightness, suggesting sway bars holding it efficiently in place. To this day, I remain puzzled why this train did not enjoy the success in the US that it enjoyed in Canada.

3:59 - No one has a dumb cell phone because they weren't invented yet.
And apparently, there is a global underground rail network that uses maglev...Unfortunately, at the current time, only the Reptilians, Greys and secret clearance military can use it. .... 90 mins from LA to NYC.

So where's the one great supercity?
As a kid in the 1970's, I remember watching the Turbo fly through at the west end of Kingston! I will never forget seeing them. Have always been a railfan! Just wish I had been into photography at a young age!!! Where did you find this? This was a great documentry! Totally enjoyed it! Thank-you for providing it!!

Truly an idea ahead of its time! This was a bit before my time, however. I did get to ride aboard the refurbished Rohr Turboliner in 2003, before Amtrak had it pulled from service and sent into long term storage.
It's really a shame that none of the UA Turbos were preserved, and I hope that at least one of the Rohr Turboliners can find a home in a museum.
