On the 15th October 1997 Thrust SSC became the first car to ever break the sound barrier. Piloted by Wing Commander Andy Green of the RAF, a top speed of 763.035mph over the flying mile was achieved.

I've uploaded five videos, one on-board and four external (but unfortunately sound-free) videos that I found on the back end of a BBC website. Click on my profile for the list.

  • Wait, wheres the sonic boom, do only air vehicles get the sonic boom around the fuselage?

  • @yomamasapeach You mean the vapour cone, known as the Prandtl-Glauert singularity. It's due to moisture in the air turning into a vapour due to the pressure change around the aircraft. There's not really enough moisture at the Black Rock desert.

  • @Zzztubazzz yes they can as clearly shown you muppet and they had government funding so no laws were brocken an if they was government funded it so nufon gon be done, silly face

  • can somebody explain me how that vehicle still sticks to the ground at such a speed?

  • bullshit they can not go more the 220 mph So if you don't know anything shut the fuck up Mother Fucker

  • What would happen if this hit you? Would you explode?

  • @HeLpErNaThAn Although the Thrust ssc has 4 wheels, the rear wheels were very close to each other (like 2 inches apart) and means that in essence, it was a trike, in the same way that a Dodge Tomahawk (look it up) is considered a motorcycle, although it technically has four wheels and should be a quad bike.

  • @RamboLambo670 WRONG it has 4wheels all fast cars must have 4wheels a trike has 3 bad joke.

  • @alcosher but will the condensation occur around the fuselage of the thrust ssc in which there is that cone of pressurized air?

  • @yomamasapeach you do not have to be in the air to create a sonic boom, that is caused by the movement of the air around you regardlesss of whether you are on the ground or not.

  • @RamboLambo670
