Barbara Hershey as Anne Shirley

Anne of Green Gables ~A New Beginning was released in Canada in 2008 and will premiere in the USA in 2009. This is the fourth film in the incredibly popular series that originally featured Megan Follows. The newest installment features Barbara along with Shirley MacLaine, Rachel Blanchard and newcomer Hannah Endicott-Douglas.

I think Barbara Hershey is a great actress, but,

not as Anne Shirley, There is only one "Anne of green gables" and that is Megan Follows.

Why didn't the producers try to cast her-didn't they know there is a "love" for Megan-anyone else would ruin the role.

I totally agree...Barbara Hershey is excellent but It's hard to separate Megan and Anne. Why would you want to in this role?

The Entity was the first film that I saw her, this amazing woman was marvelous!!

@75surfgirl I hope that they cast Barbara as Anne as a result of Megan turning it down because it was totally messing with the story... (The Continuing Story was bad enough for mucking up L.M. Montgomery's writings) Canada's beloved orphan not an orphan after all??????? oh no you didn't!

@ggiiuulliiaaa No. The last two movies are not based on the books. I haven't seen this one but it can only be the young Anne that is based on the books.

When you see different actresses play Anne, it makes you realize how exceptional Megan Follows is!

The little girl who played Anne was quite good. Obviously, no one can do Anne like Megan Follows. Barbara Hershey's Anne I couldn't even recognise.

I wish instead of the Continuing Story and this movie they could have made Anne's House of Dreams and Anne of Ingleside with Megan and Johnathan again. I would have also loved to have seen the twins that Marilla adopts in Anne of Avonlea in the storyline.

It would have been a good movie under any other name. Not only is Megan Follows who we love, but the story was changed in ways it never should have been. It was against the books and also the movies, disappointing.
