need help with ef falcon idle problem

lol TPS has nothing to do with idle, idle air bypass

@blehtubezzz if the throttle position sensor dosnt send a signal back saying the throttle is closed how would the idle air bypass valve know to open / vary the amount of air allowed through. its all dependent on each other.

in the end it was the crank angle sensor not sending back a signal so the computer thought the engine had stalled and closed the idle air bypass valve, suffocating the engine.

after a similar problem re appearing it seems that the crank angle sensor was gummed up and not sending a reliable signal back.

this was a result of a power steering leak that covered the front of the engine in oil and ended up getting coated in dirt and crud.

@19cox92 meant to make a follow up vid but i did the fuel filter and its now running like a dream. cost $24 all up. you could not blow through the old one with your mouth it was that blocked so im surprised the fuel pump stood up when it was that bad. i recon its caltex fuel causing the problem but no way to prove it.

what rpm does it idle at since this problem started?.the normal idle should be@ 750 rpm. sometimes idle problems can be automatically corrected by the cars ecu and can take 2 or 3 days to sort itself out.Or it could be a fuelling issue or vacuum leak.just something to consider.I know ef falcons like the back of my hand,my family's always owned ef's and experienced many of theyre typical problems too.

its settled down a bit so its on the back burner for now. but first ill replace the fuel filter and do a throttle body clean. the spark plugs are always squeaky clean and it never overheats so hopefully its just something minor. you suggestion about the ecu makes sense because it comes and goes but generally takes 2 days to clear up or settle down.

ill also get the computer checked for errors because i have a feeling it may be throttle position sensor.

i had the same problem with my car, all i did to fix it was remove the airfilter and sprayed throttle/carby cleaner in the intake of the engine were the butterfly is and cleaned it all up and VOILA! problem fixed

see wat the problem is, is that if the throttle gets clogged with dirt or greas it has trouble opening so when its idling its not getting enough revs to open the throttle butterfly thus leaving it shut and thus, turning the car off

@Jaytheozzi it will still know the engine is at idle via the CAS, CAS is the most important sensor followed by the MAP/Mass airflow meter, TPS is basically a load input sensor, it mostly just for fuel delivery, and always check for fault codes first, disconnect battery for 10 secs and start the car and let it run then recheck the codes for re-occurrences. you can get the info to draw the fault codes off the net, just google the make/model, hope this helps

i know you said you fixed it but when it turned off the first time it sounded the same as my el xr6 used to sound with a vacuum leak caused by the intake manifold gasket...
