    The British government marine laws at that time was 16 life boats for the Titanic the British Board of Trade recommended 16 life boats .B J Ismay changed the amount of life boats from 16 to 20 on advice from H&W. The Titanic was never unsinkable W S L and H&W never said it was unsinkable this came from a magazine called Shipbuilder they stated it was practically unsinkable and it stuck.

    As I understand it, Bruce Ismay and the White Star Line company wanted to make the most out of the size of the decks, ensuring they were roomy enough for all guests (this of course meant removing lifeboats here and there, but hey, it was unsinkable right?). Not even dreaming that sinking would be possible for the Titanic, grand design won over common sense and safety.
