This Balinese dance depicts a group of swamp birds ("Manuk"=bird, "Rawa"=swamp) from the "Wana Parwa" story of the Indian epic Mahabharata. Originally, this dance was part of a larger Mahabharata dance drama called "Bale Gala-Gala" which was performed in the Bali Arts Festival of 1980. The dance was coreographed by I Wayan Dibia and music was written by I Wayan Beratha.

I had the pleasure of being one of I Wayan Dibia's students for a year at the College of the Holy Cross in MA. Myself and a group of girls performed this dance and I'm so excited to see it again!! I loved the dance then and this brings back so many great memories! Thank you to whoever posted this video! Also check out anything I Made Bandem has choreographed. I have studied under him for a year and will continue until he leaves in May of 09. Thanks again!
