At around 1:15, is that supposed to be a laser? If so, it would look much better/mor realistic if you removed its shadow and also make a small, brightly glowing spot on the surface that it shines on, cause right now it looks like a solid green rod being wiggled around =). But I know it was a short, fast project, so all in all good stuff!

i use C4d frequently. its hard to get the little animation details just perfect isnt it?especially when something records wrong, like lights for instance.
btw what version of c4d, and did you use RealFlow?
[i have version 10, no realflow]
Rock ON! >=P
question bro`.. what`s best to use when you due movies like this.. when you render the movie
is it better to use GI ? that takes forever tho`..
So u added a lot of lights.. and u didn`t use global illumination as ur render engine.. right?

Thanks for the comment. I don't think Pixar or Dreamworks even use global illumination cause it does take forever. Just use tons of light and be very careful about their placement, shadow intensity, and falloff. Basically painting with light :) You could take your scene and do a low quality global illumination render so you can see how it should look, then use the render as a guide for placing all your lights to fake that.

thanks for the comment. It took about 4 solid days to render in total but I was using a render farm supplied by the school--a cluster of G5s--not my own computer. There were a few issues with a light or particle effect or material that I had to correct as I would come back and find that one frame was taking 12 hours to render and not going anywhere. That was fun :P

What did you use for that, Maya or 3DS?

Sorry, I just saw this comment today x.x I actually used a program called Cinema 4D. I haven't had a chance to mess around with 3DS or Maya :)
