Jay Tummelson is the Owner of Rio Grande Games. They are responsible for most of the popular family strategy board games that have come over from Europe. These include: Carcassonne, Puerto Rico, Power Grid, Dominion, Race for the Galaxy, and many others. In this interview, Jay talks about the philosophy behind these kinds of games, the popularity of Dominion, and his take on why it is important for people to try them before they buy them.
He is trying to give more meaning to what He does, and thats fine, and in fact he has a point. Yes the idea of games is to play and have fun and not get too serious about it, but he has a point. There is more strategy to games that have no dice at all, then there is in other dice games except for maybe DnD which is no baordgame. In the end, no matter how you feel this man is wonderful because he brought us so many amazing games.

I think Jay reads too much into the values he believes are taught in games. Games should be played to have fun. Period. Whether that includes roll and move games or games involving choice, just have fun.
