Oman protesters call for reform

Hundreds of protesters rallied across Oman on Friday, demanding political reform and better working conditions.

Rival demonstrations also took place in support of Oman's ruler, Sultan Qaboos bin Said.

In the industrial city of Sohar, protestors called for an end to corruption and higher wages.

Qaboos deposed his own father in order to bring Oman into the 20th century. I think that his sexual preferences should be ignored and the good work this man has done for his people be the actions by which he is judged. There is no other Arab country like it, nor people as kind, honest and friendly as the Omanis. I spent most of my life there as a westerner from Dhofar in the early 70's up until 2002, and feel priveledged to have done so.
