this was the first TFA toy I ever bought, mostly because I loved the idea of a motorcycle transformer, in fact he was the first transformers toy I got in years, actually ever, now that I think about it I didn't collect transformers when I was a little kid and only got into them when this line came out!

I have this toy and I have to say I have to agree with what you say they could have done better. I also that comment you made about him not being able to hold his throwing stars. I can't get my prowl's throwing stars unstuck from his wheels. (Attempts to pull one out and leg comes off) Dang!

I have Prowl too. He's so small and cute XD But he IS fun to pose.
Y'know, another figurine that is surprisingly posable is Armada Unicron. His appearance is deceiving, he can get in some pretty whacky positions.
