The first of a continuing series, the video gives an overview on my writing process, how to write a riff and set up a Pro Tools session. More to follow, soon we'll dive into the knitty-gritty on what makes good metal and how to accomplish it, from choosing the right notes and finding the perfect tone to developing drum parts and structuring the song.

  • nice vid! you know what your talking about and your not a tool bag....good job lol

  • @thebanez Hahaha. I think not being a tool bag takes more practice than the guitar stuff, lol. Thanks for one of the more interesting compliments I've ever had.

  • What program are you useing

  • @brb224 This is Pro Tools 9, and the drum software is from ToonTrack, called EZDrummer.

  • Do you have Skype? It would be great if you could give me some pointers on programs that aren't too pricey (if you know any) and maybe some teaching, if you do that .:)

  • @SlipKnotIOWAmasks I set up a skype account just recently for KTM. My handle is KillTheMusicPodcast. I'd be glad to give you a few pointers. All music software is basically the same; the workflow is just a bit different. I've been using Pro Tools and M-Audio interfaces since I started and have been happy. But Cubase is awesome too. GarageBand on a Mac is actually really great and its free. If you're on PC, I would give Cakewalk Sonar Essentials a try. It's around 100 bucks.
