Hundreds of union healthcare workers marched to the Connecticut State Capitol on June 17 to protest the devastating budget cuts proposed by Republican Governor Jodi Rell. Affected by the closing of state-run hospitals and service cutbacks will be thousands of people with mental health problems and developmental disabilities, as well as elderly nursing home residents. District 1199 has mobilized thousands of union members over the last five months to fight the cuts and demand that the state's wealthy pay their fair share in taxes to help balance the budget.
