Maria swung her feet back and forth in the cool water. She watched the dolphins swimming around gracefully. She loved working here at Sea World. When she was done feeding them she could sit around and think until she got off of work. Right now, Roberto was on her mind. He had been on her mind since the night he saved her. But today, all she could think about was what he was planning for Friday night.

"Get ahold of yourself, Maria." She whispered to herself. "It' s no big deal." She lied. It was a big deal to her. She had never, ever felt this way about any guy. Especially a guy she knew nothing about. Well, not really nothing. He had a sister. He was in a gang which included ; Amalia, Gina, Liam & Chelsea. He rode a motorcycle. That' s all she knew, but at least she knew something.

"Maria !"

Maria jumped. "Huh?"

"I' ve been calling your name and waving my hand in front of your face for the last few minutes. You didn' t notice ?"

"No, sorry Leo. I just have a lot on my mind."

"Then lemme help get your mind off things." Leo smiled.

"How do you plan on doing that ?" Maria raised her eyebrow and smirked.

Leo placed his hand in the water and splashed Maria' s legs. She looked down at her now wet jean shorts and she laughed. "I' m S O gunna get you back for that !" Maria stood up, slipped on her black&white converse, and chased Leo around the dolphin tank until she finally tackled him to the ground. "Gotcha !" She laughed.

Leo started laughing. "You got me." He whispered when their laughing calmed down. Maria stared into Leo' s crystal blue eyes for just one moment but turned away abuptly.

"Maybe we should get up now." Maria said.

Leo nodded his head and sighed. He got up and held out his hand for Maria to take. He pulled her up.

"Thanks." Maria smiled sweetly. "Can you give me a ride home ?"

Leo couldn' t help but smile back. Maria' s smille made all the akwardness wash away. "Sure." On the ride to Maria' s house, all he could think about was the moment they shared today. He hoped that she was starting to feel for him, the way he felt for her.

"Thanks for the ride, Leo." Maria said when he pulled into her driveway. She leaned over and gave him a light, quick kiss on the cheek. "See you tomorrow."




Leo watched Maria walk into her house. He touched his cheek where Maria' s lips had just met with his skin. A smile grew on his face. .

Amalia let the words of her story flow out of her mouth, with so much emotion. The whole class was on the edge of their seats. The loved the story. . They wouldn' t have loved it so much if they had actually been there, living the story. It was months full of heartbreak, betrayal, danger. But also Love, Trust, Friendship. The people in this class would have never been able to make it the way Maria did.



Ahh, Maria. The sweet, innocent, beautiful girl all the boys loved & all the girls envied. So full of life. She could brighten up a whole room with her corny jokes, her nice smile. She was always thinking about 'the Bight Side' of things. She had helped Amalia through some tough times, even when she tried to push Maria away. She was the last person on Earth that Amalia wanted to talk to. But in the end, Maria turned out to be her Best Friend, her Closest Friend. If someone had told Amalia that in a short few months, Maria Rodriguez would become her best friend she would' ve thought they were on crack. But of it wasn' t for Maria, her life would' ve fallen apart. She would' ve lost her brother. She would' ve dropped out of school. She would' ve thrown her life away.




The class clapped their hands together when Amalia stopped talking. Even the teacher looked interested. Oh yeah, she was definitely getting an 'A' for this project.


"Was Maria starting to have feelings for Leo?"



"Did she decide t go with Roberto on Friday?"



"Did Leo ever tell her about his feelings for her?"



Questions started filling up the room in no time. All of them went unanswered. They would have to wait and see.
