BUCS Week 04: Rugby Union, Football & Badminton

Sporting stars from across the University have been in action as the fourth week of BUCS matches continued.

The Women's Rugby Union team, bolstered by a 103-0 scoreline against Birmingham last week, produced an energetic performance to defeat Loughborough 49-0.

And there was vindication, too, for the Men's Rugby Union 1st team. After a torrid start to BUCS which saw them fall to Durham and the University of Leeds, they showed the will to win, by overcoming Loughborough resistance to win 18-5.

Rugby's winning streak was capped at Headingley Carnegie Stadium, where the 1st team beat Northumbria 56-6. The 2nd team also achieved a 56-0 score against Newcastle.

In a week when fixtures against Loughborough featured heavily in the lineup of scheduled games, the Women's Football 1st team rose to the challenge to record a 1-0 scoreline against Loughborough. Their winning ways were matched by the 3rd team, who were 3-1 against Huddersfield at full-time.

It was a similar story in Women's Badminton, where the 1st team served up an 8-0 defeat to the Leicestershire visitors. Their scoreline was matched by the Men's Badminton1st team, who beat Liverpool 8-0. Wins were also recorded for the Men's 2nd and 3rd teams.

Grey November failed to dampen the spirits of hockey teams fielded by Leeds Met throughout the afternoon. The Women's 1st and 3rd teams achieved 1-0 and 6-0 wins against Loughborough and Sheffield Hallam respectively. The Men's Hockey 1st team ended their afternoon 7-2 against Liverpool.

The Netball 2nd team also enjoyed a positive afternoon, with a 55-28 score against Liverpool.
