Beautiful birds, and people love to portray chickens as mindless with no emotions so they can do what they do to them...so very wrong. Thank you for sharing them here. Do you feed their eggs to dogs & cats?
@1221solstice2012 Hi! I know what you mean about people showing chickens in a negative light - How else could they reconcile exploiting them so if not? :(
Yes - My dogs do eat the eggs... Aside from that - no other "flesh" food for them. I also feed lots of the eggs back to the girls - Next to watermelon that's their favorite treat!
So glad Cleo has companions now -- they're so cute, and growing fast, I can see! Hope you come up with names for the other four that are as pretty as Olivia and Susan -- and, yes, I hope they are all girls!
Question: How is it that hatcheries can tell whether day-old chicks are male or female?
Happy new planting and shading come spring.
And, yes, I like your sense of humor with the roasting pan and knives. :-)
@BoxerBlessings1 Hi! Yes they did grow fast... Faster enough to want to be with the grown up hens - There's a real drive to be part of the larger flock. I suppose in nature that's security. (?)
As I mentioned in another comment - All is not lost for Cleo - She's having a happy new adventure as we speak - (more later)
Supposedly it's an "art" to determine boys - It's in the wing/feather pattern. They do make mistakes though - Making their "science" sicker still. :(
@BobbieJamesTuOl Yes dirt to chickens is indispensable! They even need it to break down food-Soil to chickens is life!
Cleo's right leg "went" over a year ago.She did fine till the other leg failed her a few months ago. My guess is a genetic "flaw".
The company for Cleo has since grown up & "moved on" wanting to be with the big girls. I should have noted that this video was taken a long while ago-But there is a new "episode" in Cleo's life that I'll be releasing soon. Thanks for the visit!
I had no idea chickens scratched in the dirt so much! It really is a necessary part of their lives! It was fun to watch them interact. Did Cleo get injured or is she just getting older? She's sweet - glad you got her some company!
Love your vid Bea...it was such a joy to watch...
