    The work this aria comes from is Bach's St. Matthew Passion BWV 244. This particular recording of the St. Matthew is conducted by Wolfgang Gönnenwein. Just do a search (i.e. Amazon) for: Bach: St Matthew Passion Gönnenwein

    Thank you, Quatarsys, for tracking down the names! Film directors can chose any version of a musical work but most - like Kubrick and Tarkovsky - audition recordings until the hear the one they must have.
