When we got to Clyman Junction, the local LPA-18 from Jefferson was there consisting of just UP 369 idling at the end of the branch. Scanner talk indicated that MVPPR was approaching from the west, and MBUVP from the east, so it was a three-way meet, our second of the day (also the second for the LPA-18 crew in 369)!

The westbound took the siding to our east, while MVPPR slowly approached. I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was led by UP 9253, one of only a few standard cab Dash 8s still in operation on the UP system. The engineer gave us a nice salute as they crossed the road. Second unit was UP 7886, a C45ACCTE (UP's name for the AC traction GEVO, otherwise known as the ES44AC), followed by SD70M UP 4004 and SD9043MAC UP 8145.

The eastbound took its time to clear. Once they did, MBUVP pulled off the siding light power and set out their rear motor, GP38-2 UP 665, just shy of the Clyman Sub (branch line to Jefferson/Fort Atkinson) switch. Then LPA-18 with 369 pulled in, picked it up and towed it south down the branch.

Next, BUVP went back east to pick up their train from the siding. Their remaining four motors were SD70Ms UP 4609 and 4732, SD40-2R UP 3198, and GP38-2 LLPX 2239. When I said it didn't look like there was any rare power, that was before I could clearly make out the SD40-2R and LLPX unit through the camcorder viewfinder. Not a bad variety when usually the SD70Ms are all that can be found powering trains on the Adams Subdivision.

  • Hey Andy did you say something about me in this video it sounded like you said my name?

  • I don't think so, but maybe. Where in the video is it?

  • Oh yeah, I did. I think I was telling Derek about how you railfan the local in Jefferson.

  • pretty good video. looks like it was a VHS recording because of the lines at the bottom of screeen. better picture quality then my modern cheap Mini DV camcorder.

  • Thanks. It's a Hi8 camcorder, so you get those lines at the bottom, but it's better quality than VHS. Mini DV should theoretically be able to outperform them both.
