You miss the point. Obviously in the way our society works we need farmers, doctors, mechanics etc. He never said fuck society off. What he is saying is don't let your career aka the future define the point of life. As he said "the future is a useful tool." And it is a useful tool, but always be mindful of the now and enjoy every living moment, as living for the future indefinitely means you never get to enjoy the moment you are in right now. That's it really, hence life is like music.
