In January 1967, The Supremes began recording classic Disney songs for a planned album that was due to be released as "The Supremes Sing Disney Classics." The idea had originated with Diana as she wanted to record an album for children. Disney was the best answer and work began on the album, however by mid-1967 the album was put on hold when Florence Ballard was fired from the group and replaced by Cindy Birdsong. Recordings for the album resumed with Cindy Birdsong now in the group and the album was retitled "Diana Ross & The Supremes Sing Disney Classics." However, the album was abandoned by late 1967 and shelved.

Written by Leigh Harline and Ned Washington
Produced by Mickey Gentile
Track recorded in New York: January 6, 1967
Lead & background vocals recorded: January 28, 1967

  • this was recorded Spetember 1967, not January

  • @MotownMaster Maybe Diana's vocal was recorded in September, but the instrumental track and background vocals were recorded before then as Florence is on this recording.

  • Thanks for posting these Disney classics by the legendary Supremes. If Motown had released this album it would have been a classic. Thank you!!!

  • Thanks! I plan to upload a few more songs from the sessions.

  • Thanks for posting this. Never heard it and love the arrangement. After hearing When You Wish Upon a Star, I thought it was best to shelve the Album. Although this sounds very much like their Copa period recordings, it would have made a great release.

  • Its too bad that Motown or hippo select doesn't release this unreleased album in its entirety it would be a great seller They sure did a first class job!! hope to hear more of these Disney songs thanks for posting!!!!!!!
