U.S. Science Envoy Elias Zerhouni visited Algeria March 6-8. During his stay in Algiers, Dr. Zerhouni held discussions with senior officials of the Government of Algeria, met leaders of the scientific, medical, technology, and academic communities, led a lively discussion with over 200 medical students at the University of Algiers, and toured the Pierre and Marie Curie Cancer Center. He also held a press conference with representatives of the Algerian media, conducted interviews with Algerian radio and television, and filmed a public service announcement on the importance of organ donation. Dr. Zerhouni highlighted the vital role that science and technology exchange among nations plays in spurring economic growth, creating jobs, and providing opportunities for students and professionals to reach their full potential.
Announced in Cairo by President Obama, the U.S. Science Envoy Program seeks to build global partnerships to, develop new sources of energy, create green jobs, digitize records, clean water, and grow new crops. The U.S. Governments interest in meaningful partnerships on science and technology stems from Americas and all nations mutual interest in improving lives around the world.
