Chris and Jay head down to the syndicate specimen lake in the hope of a rare January Monster Carp. Please note that the safety bolt rig is the worng way round. We put it together for demonstration purposes only and it wasn't used for real. But well done to the guys who have picked up on it.

  • Not sure some of your rigs will actually work using maggots with what you call padlock effect i'm sure that would actually render the rig useless i must be missing the point

  • @funkycarpers yes, you've completely misunderstood (But maybe not explained too well for the beginners so dont worry) The hook which nestles inside the plastic corn is a very small size 16 hook actually tied on to the end of the hair- its purpose is to only hold the maggots in place- it's microbarbed so it 'locks in' and secures them. google search maggot rigs and you'll see it more clearly. You dont go for 40lb carp with a size 16 hook! lol

  • Sorry guys but its The Carp Catcher. Absolute legend! He is the best carp angler I've seen. Increadible knowledge. And his blogs are sensible and he puts in so much effort for some great rewards. You guys are great for a laugh though. Hooked on fishing, sleepyfisherman and carp, course and swansea are also top blogs.

  • @corkballpopup lol dont be sorry! Steve is legendary!

  • you guys are the best just because jay's bald.

  • the fish, the fake corn also negates the weight of the hook to make the rig act more natural!

  • @funkycarpers - the maggot rig you are talking about is a very well known and used rig. You basically tie up a standard knot less knot rig and slide a piece of fake corn onto the hair, you then tie a size 14 barbless hook onto the end of the hair to almost act like a pin into which you can thread maggots. Once you have threaded the maggots onto the smaller hair hook, you bury the point back into the fake corn, thus stopping the maggots wriggling off. The small hook has nothing to do with hookin

  • it seems from the clip that your masking the hookpoint and that would render it useless and i believe on poss takes that the plastic could move and prevent turning i've been fishing for thirty years and have never come across that rig before maggot clips we used dental floss e.t.c i just thought i'd ask because it just seems that its not explained right and i can see that alot of new comers will copy and set it up wrong and will then sit there with a masked hook point and not catch

  • your channel because you always make me laugh when ever u put a blog up and also because you are bouth great anglers and have good tips!!!!!
