At the grocery store, I thought that a Kiwi time lapse might be cool. I was under the false impression that the mushy green center would collapse quickly. Apparently, the brown outer skin holds in the moisture and the kiwi can last a long time. Since starting this video, I've heard stories of kiwis staying in people's fridges for months and still being good to eat. I now believe it.

I shot this video over the course of six plus months. I honestly lost track because it took so long to shoot. I used the Sony HC-46 Mini DV camera in still mode. It took photos every 10 minutes and placed them on a memory card. I had nearly 20,000 photos and used 1800 of them in this video at 60 frames per second. The speed of decay is over 500,000 times reality (check my math)

I edited with Final Cut Pro. The song is "Missing in Action" which was purchased from the Studiocutz Music Library. The kiwi is from Giant Eagle.

Even though I was disappointed in the results I decided to release the video. After all, I couldn't justify shooting for 6 months and not even get a 30 second video out of it. Further, I almost didn't release my grapes to raisins time lapse and that now has over 140,000 views. I doubt that this video will be that popular, but we'll let the Youtube community decide whether they like it or not.

  • You should cut one open and try it again

  • @notagoat1 I did do that. You should check it out. I think it's called Kiwi Fruit Time Lapse 2.

  • did you cut it open to check the damage?

  • @jenzeppelin No, but that would have been a good idea.

  • The kiwi just got old..

  • @Zalamedas "Old" is such a relative term. :)

  • At what point in the video would it have been advisable not to eat the fruit?

  • the reason it takes so long to rot is because of all the preservatives added to it so that it survives the trip from new zealand etc to where ever it's going.

  • Looks like a testicle
