"Crusades" tells the compelling, often horrific, story of the fanatics and fantasists, knights and peasants who were caught up in these fervent times. It reveals how Muslims, Jews and Christians were massacred, and how the Crusades sowed the seeds of 'jihad', the holy war for Islam, a legacy that endures today.
and the knights had no teddybears?

@kalev76 not so. when the crusaders took over it was recorded that the muslims living in those areas were treated much better by Christian rule then when the saracens previously ruled there. of course i'm talking about shortly after the first crusade.

@conservatiive456 Of course there may have been some harassment caused by muslims, but nothing out of the ordinary. Look at the European countries of that time, they too harassed people and even their own christian people, often much more harshly.
What pope said was not in scale with what was really happening in Jerusalem - that's the point I was trying to make.

Well, you are certainly free to believe that. You'd be ignoring a lot of historical evidence if you did, but there is no law against that. Good luck.

@kalev76 that's not true.
I've researched the history as well. it DID however note that the harassment caused by muslims was exaggerated, however there was harassment cause by muslims in the holy land. some of the first crusaders even had injuries from so. one of the main Crusaders I believe was missing an eye from it.

@conservatiive456 I never said anything about why the Crusades were started, why you think I don't know about the history of Crusades? What the fuck?
And now if you really want to come at me with history then know this, muslims did not harass the Christians in Jerusalem, that was made up by the pope to gain back his waning influence. Yes the Crusaders went there because they thought that what pope said was true and ended up killing thousands inside the Holy Land - muslims/jews/christians.

@kalev76 research your history.
you've got it right, but you've left out some key information.
the muslims had control of the holy land and were harassing Christians who went to visit the holy land. the First Crusade was for the Crusaders to be able to have access to the holy land without harassment and violence caused by muslim extremism.

@LichGeneral Yes but after Crusades the Holy War was included into jihad concept, damn you people lol
I wasn't talking about holy wars alone.
Again, before Jihad had little to nothing to do with wars.

@kalev76
The concept of Holy war certainly existed before the Crusades.
Might not had a word for it, but it was there.
