Guilford SW1 #1407 works the Newburyport Branch, from Wakefield,MA thru Lynnfield, Peabody and Danvers on 04/05/1991. Most of this trackage has been abandoned for many years now......My parents (Craig) live within view of the branch and I spent alot of my youth watching trains and walking the tracks there. Video by the late Richard 'Moose' Ouellette. If you like our stuff, Please comment and/or subscribe!
I've never seen a trainman ride a coupler like that [6:30]. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks so much for posting this! I too remember these trains going through Wakefield, and the horrible condition the track was in. I find it rather amazing that they sent propane cars down those tracks the way they were! I saw them cleaning up at least one derailment of a box car...I know it was a fairly common occurrence, but I never got to see it happen.

@nhrrman Yeah I used to ride the tracks on my friend starting in Wakefield at the bottom of my street. Once we hit Lowell St we had to get off the ROW because it was too overgrown to travel on. We made it all the way to the overpass and tried to go further but the water stopped us too. I hate seeing the line in the shape it is today

@CN7470 My brother and I walked the tracks this summer from Summer St. in Lynnfield about half way to Rt.128 and the tracks were seriously under water by there...we had to turn back, Craig

@SignalHillProds I was 10 when they closed this branch down. I remember seeing the last train to ever go down the branch. The train which was led by a gp7/9 derailed at the main street crossing. That was what finally put an end to train operations on this branch. I have fond memories of watching these trains cross the bottom of my street and running down my driveway every time I heard a train horn. It’s really a shame that this branch shut down and so little of it remains today,

Best. Video. Ever. I was nine years old when this branch was shut down, and I have only a few vague memories of it in operation. They've been abandoned for most of my life, so it's really cool to them in action, especially with those cool switcher locomotives.

What a nostalgic vid! Lived in Danvers for ten years and saw those switchers
coming out of The Castle Hill yard up to 1986, before the Waters River Trestle was afire and saw several switches going ti Creese and Cook Leather Co.
including that "BEAM HOUSE" with raw hides. Sure like that switch bringing a
propane tanker to Eastern Propane.

Very cool! I'd love to see any other footage you have of B&M Branchlines in suburban MA.
