Pardon my ignorance: so you start the main engine with another engine? What is the high-rev'd sound at the beginning of the video? Or are you using an air compressor to start the main engine?

@fiegenfiegen A pony motor is a small engine that turns the main engine and the pony motors exhaust pipe runs through the main engine intake manifold heating the air inside acting like a glow-plug. The high-rev'd sound you hear is from the pony motor.

I remember when I was a kid they called these earth movers. The newer ones are combined units with only 4 wheels and are articulated behind the cab. It has to be one of the most simply designed but most important machines ever made for building roads.
