Associate professor Amy Bonomi in the College of Education and Human Ecology at The Ohio State University has found that medical diagnoses reveal women who have been abused show a higher rate of various maladies such as chest pain, abdominal pain, urinary tract infections and more illnesses not previously thought to be associated with abuse, whether that abuse is physical or emotional; almost one in two women have reported exposure to domestic violence in their lifetime.
