Being honest is horrible? Albini's elitism towards musical industry actually makes him an interesting person, especially when confronted with his calm and quite kind behavior before and after gigs.

His elitism makes him a dick. There's no excuse for it. Some of his articles are pretty good (I liked the one about new bands getting suckered in by big labels), but the guy could stand to show a little appreciation to the people who put cash in his pocket.

He does show appreciation.

That's why he saves his pennies all around the year, stop working for a couple of weeks and head with his buddies to tour as Shellac, charge piss for tickets and play for almost free. Most of the expenses are on their pockets, cos they believe that music is for everyone.

To me, that's the best way you can appreciate who puts cash in your pocket.

So the dude has no money?

Okay, I'll take everything I said back. If I did everything you just said with a band I was in, I'd be an asshole too. I couldn't really say much about seeing him live, seeing as how I live in an area where seeing ANYONE live is a pretty shocking occurrence.

I'm not saying he's broke. I'm saying he is wise enough to save money all year round to tour with his band, with the band itself making just enough revenue to cover the basic costs. They don't make much money, and they manage themselves (I believe).

But it's great that he does it. They charge piss all at the entrance, accessible to anyone. Why should you be charged more than $5 to a show? Just cos a band is good doesn't mean it's the only band around. They're all about respecting the fans.

why should he praise the musicians he chooses to work with? it's his job...he delivers results. what are you suggesting? that he hand out a certificate of approval with every recording?
