Hits the first note on key.... still mesmerizing the crowd 30 years later. A class act. Commanding attention and exuding sensuality without trying.

A refreshing contrast to what we see today.

    Bravo astrud !

Canto de Ossanha. Ossanha´s song. Ossanha is a deity of Afro-Brazilian religions. The owner of the herbs. The medicinal ones. He knows all about them. And brings cure. A "folk" song. Impossible to be translated into any language. Sorry. You mus be born in Brazil to understand it. Not even portuguese people can "understand" it. Actually a man suffering of love´s hurt who needs a cure for it. Maybe Ossanha can bring him the cure for it. Maybe. At least, I can understand this way.

I love hearing her sing in this language much better than in English. She just sounds soooooo good! I have to listen to her sing these songs at least 2 time each. What a treat to listen to those sweeeeeeet vocal chords!!!!!

actually this would be compared to more of the jazz scene then pop and soul music, and in that genre there are many excellent gifted singers who dont scream and all. kinda puzzled why you would pick pop and soul, unless you have some weird hate thing going, but that would be your problem. as for me, i enjoy a good singer, no matter where they are from.

I prefer to this type of breathy whispery singing to the ear-deafening howls, wailinga, and angry screams that make up America's pop and soul music scene.

while Astrud and many of the great Brasilian vocalists are 'quiet' virtuosas, these are VERY tough songs to sings, many sharps and flats and then returns to robust melody lines......There is much to be learned from their style. Restraint reveals that LESS is MORE - unlike the histrionic gyrations we see in the states today. There are NO singers like Nana Caymmi or Astrud that I know of. KD Lang stands alone, but she does not do this style of singing.
