St. Pete Mom Charged With BURNING & BEATING HER Mentally Handicapped Children!!!!

Two severely mentally handicapped children and three siblings were taken into state custody after investigators found signs of "brutal" child abuse, St. Petersburg police said.

Latasha Hatcher was charged with two counts of aggravated child abuse and one count of child neglect. She's being held in the Pinellas County Jail without bond.

According to police, a school official noticed a severe burn on the inner elbow of an 11-year-old boy who is severely mentally handicapped and cannot speak. Child protection investigators from the county contacted Hatcher who said the boy probably burned himself, police said.

That prompted a visit to the family home, where investigators found more signs of abuse. A five-year-old girl, who is also mentally handicapped and cannot speak, had numerous scars on her back. Detectives believe Hatcher beat the child with a plastic hanger, police spokesman Mike Puetz said.

Five children in the home, as young as two months old, were taken into state custody. The 11-year-old boy was taken to All Children's Hospital. He was burned so severely on his inner right elbow, tissue was exposed, police said.

"No matter how often we see these types of cases," said police spokesman Mike Puetz, "It's always appalling to see the level of brutality some parents have towards their children.
