This video is from The New Playing Fields: Building a 21st Century Sandbox, the Sandbox Summit conference held on September 24, 2008 in New York City.

Andy Berndt, creative lab guru at Google, tells how turning a box of used bike parts into a functioning bike led him to connect a panoply of new ideas. If we want our kids to be able to function in organizations that respect creativity, critical thinking, and out-of-the-box solutions, how can we help them develop the skills they need to get there?

Sandbox Summit is a series of conferences designed to address how technology affects the ways kids play, learn, and connect in today's digital world. Through high-energy panels, innovative demonstrations, original research and thought-provoking discussions with industry leaders, journalists, analysts, and educators, Sandbox Summit brings an added dimension to corporate conversations. The goal of the Sandbox Summit is to ensure that the next generation of players becomes active innovators rather than passive consumers of technology. To learn more, visit sandboxsummit.org.

[NOTE: Due to technical difficulties, Andy's main microphone was off for the first few minutes of his presentation.]
