1978: Eamonn Cooke denies child sex abuse on Radio Dublin.

Radio Dublin owner Eamonn Cooke was convicted in 2007 of indecent assault of young girls between 1976 and 1978. Three decades before his conviction, in April 1978, staff at the Dublin pirate station left after learning of sex abuse allegations against Cooke, putting the station out of commission before they departed. Cooke quickly got the station operating again, and the following Sunday he went on air for two hours to protest his innocence and denounce his former staff. In 2008, one of the women whom Cooke was convicted of abusing as a girl published a book about her experiences. On May 11, 2009, Cooke lost his appeal against his conviction. The three-judge Court of Criminal Appeal said it was satisfied there was more than adequate evidence upon which a jury could convict Cooke and there was no question of a miscarriage of justice in his case.
