  • She is brilliant, and she is in Charlotte, NC. She has since changed jobs and is working for the NC Birth to Three program doing assessments. Nancy Kaufman reviewed some of his tape and agreed with you! We knew she was great, but it was nice to have an authority validate our instinct. PROMPT is a tactile cueing method- still the only was he achieves new phonemes. We still drive to Charlotte to see a diff therapist, but no one will ever replace Maria!

  • I cried when I watched this. My son says ba-ba for mama, too. Thanks for posting this!!!

  • I saw your son's video a while ago and thought how similar their little lives were. I hope you all have made the progress we have in the last few months. Since beginning this therapy, he has about 30 words and about 50 approximations. He is thrilled to be able to comment on things... from "uh oh" to "daddy boat do dere" (daddy's boat goes there" whenever we go over bridges). I don't think we realized, since he is our third, how quiet he really was. How things have changed!

  • He is doing very well, but the SLP seems a bit rough and as if she doesn't quite give him appropriate time to respond. Not much 'play' n her voice, she seems to be yelling almost.

Just an opinion from another SLP who has worked with young children for the past 10 years. I'm glad he is doing well though.

  • She takes a break a pairs with him every 5-10 minutes. But when you have driven 100 miles to get there... you only have one shot to be in charge! It never bothered either one of us, and truthfully, with the smiley therapists, there were lots of Mr. Potato Head parts flying across the room.

  • This videos are amazing to watch! I am a junior majoring in speech pathology and it's very interesting to watch his progress! He is doing so well!

  • This was his first day with her- he has continued to progress fantastically! Worth the 100 miles each way for sure!

  • Speech therapy is something that I could've had when I was young. I was such a troubled speaker I was barely audible. In fact in primary school we had to read aloud from books and I was the one who always got the most complaints for being too quiet. I couldn't help it but I was always berated for it.

  • lady is good but she's seems impatient.

  • Amazing progress! :)

  • The only ones he says clearly are "mama" and "bye bye"... everything else is just babble. I'm dealing with sooo many tantrums because he's so frustrated all the time since he's not able to communicate :(

  • But he does say 'thank you' and this is my concern because the only way you can actually tell he's saying 'thank you' is because he makes 2 syllables... it can come out any way.. like "aag aag" or "tat tow' or "cha choo".... anyway, he's been saying 'thank you' since he was 1 but he's now 22 months and he says it worse than before. He has not improved with any other words.

  • I have a feeling that my son has apraxia. Although I have not talked to his pediatrician about it. At first I was looking at ASDs but he has met all of the milestones for his age. Still, I feel like he struggles so much with speech. He cannot say 'yes' or 'no' he only shakes his head and sometimes (very rarely nods).

  • He is soooo cute. The therapist's style is very "in your face" but some kids really respond to this. It communicates who is in charge and makes things run more smoothly. The therapist is not there to coddle, she is there is accomplish something within a short time frame. Her style is what THIS child needed.

  • Thank you so much for the uploading. REally an eyes openning.

  • WHO is this brilliant ST?? Where is she? i am going to take my 29mo in for an eval, but watching apraxia videos here, i am sure that's what he has. Is this SLP doing the Prompt technique? how is Prompt different from 'regular" speech therapy? the physical prompts? TIA!
