  • @armyveteran101st No, I haven't forgotten OUR armed forces, are made up mostly of individuals who fight to defend our country. I'm just saying that most, perhaps all other armies, are NOT like ours.

History is full of examples of militocracies replacing despotisms, and offering the people no relief from oppression, and tyranny. In fact, I don't think there's even one example of a good outcome resulting from a military coup.

If they fight WITH the people fine, but otherwise, not so fine.

  • @UtubeMyAccountName I don't look at the military in the negative way that you do, maybe because I've been a member of an armed institution whose goal has always been the protection of its people and the Constitution it serves. Yes, armies are technically the instrument through which governments advance their policies once all other options have been exhausted, but armies are often staffed and driven by patriotic people who love their countries and have chosen to serve them. Don't forget that.

  • @armyveteran101st That is only the way the U.S. armed forces work. As far as I am aware, only the U.S. army, and government (supposedly) are bound by, Posse Comitatus. Every other army in the world is, and always has always been, a tool of the state.

The only times armies have ever turned on the bureaucracy historically, is when the have taken over themselves. This would hardly be a positive outcome for individuals in search of liberty.

  • This will be decided by the Egyptian Army. If they decide to be patriotic, they will start protecting the anti-Mubarak protesters from the thugs that have been attacking them, at the very least. What I would love to see is the Egyptian Army turning its guns on the thugs. An army is supposed to be the steel behind a nation's backbone, and the Egyptian Army has a golden opportunity to take a stand for what's right and get on the right side of history. As a former Soldier, I hope they will.
