Two AVIs, taken between about 20mins apart, 9pm Central London 6.10.10 using a Synscan Skymax Maksutov-Cassegrain 127 with two Phillips wecams, a Vesta Pro PCVC675 and a SPC880NC flashed to SPC900NC.

Slighly breezy night, and early evening meant more light pollution from nearby homes and more shake from buses ploughing along main road about 80 metres away.

Split screen achieved using Windows Movie Maker with a split-screen plug-in.

Vesta is top Jupiter, SPC900NC is bottom Jupiter.

Question: Which is the superior camera?

  • oooh, it's close...what do you think?

  • @DABOXASH Still swings and roundabouts. Each has its own qualities. I have not had an opportunity to use the SPC900 as much as I would like, but I think it might win out in the end simply on account of what is revealed when you try to stack the AVI frames, in say KCCD tools or registax. At really high res (two double barlows) the stacked Vesta images reveal a fine "grid" corresponding to the circuitry on the chip. This is less apparent with the SPC900 model.
