@painxtreme..."wonderful tone"? Really? It's been a while since he played this and it clearly shows. The intro was tinny, garbled from the effects he was using. I love Robbie's music, both with and without the Band. But he was clearly having an of-performance.

@fattirevsbud He gets a wonderful tone, you'd never mistake his guitar work for anyone else's even on his more modern stuff.

I love the Horseshoe Tavern bit at the end, too. That's good history right there.

Levon is upset that Robbie ended the Band. And made the biggest profit from the movie"The Last Waltz". Robbie has to live with that. That said,Robbie broke up the Band because he saw talented songwriters and performers turning into druggies and drunks. The road took it's toll.Richard Manuel & Rick Danko died from this. They were sloppy onstage and the juices for new songs were fading away.Still it would be nice to see the 3 living bandmates unite.

Well, it's nice that this late version contains some new items, i.e. not least Robbie Robertson's voice and that lovely riff of him in the middle of this ageless song!

I like to think Garth Hudson is playing piano in memory of Richard Manuel. I've seen many Band videos and its rare for him to be playing a baby grand. PeaceLoveRespect&Music

Robbie was a fantastic songwriter, but he was not a fantastic singer. That's why he had Danko, Helm and Manuel:-) They were bloody amazing!!! As much respect I have for Mr. Robertson, his output since The Band has been below average:-/ He wrote great music, so what happend???

if you read Levon's book This Wheel's On Fire, you will realize what a douchebag Robbie was, and still is today. And, no, he can't sing.
All this knocking a guy and a band that JUST got inducted into the CANADIAN MUSIC HALL OF FAME!! Some lame ass peope in this world. This song, and some others helped me and my "brothers" get through hell on earth for a year in a place called Viet'shit'nam. I don't care if he sings and sounds like a nutless goat...I LOVE IT!!

It's peculiar that people believe all the cheap remarks Levon makes about Robertson. You notice that Robertson never, ever descends to personal attacks when he describes how the Band broke up, whereas Levon seems devoted to pettiness. As for Levon's "principles" in not playing with Robertson, the fact is he went on and on playing Robertson's songs live, and making money off them. Levon is a great drummer and was a terrific singer, but he made himself small and childish with bitter envy.
