Wendy and I went to Montego Bay Jamaica for a business trip and needed a Taxi driver to go to several appointments. We wandered into a market and asked the local people what they thought. All the ladies that sold stuff said we should get Andy as a driver - they were right. Andy our Taxi driver is awesome! If you go to Jamaica make sure to call him at 1-876-843-8849. He is dramatically less expensive than most taxi drivers, knows everything about everywhere & took us to many really cool places. He is great!

  • Sorry for any misunderstanding. Andy called this "home" a Village. Have you been to England (which is a significant influencer on Jamaican culture) where they call what we'd call a town a "village" Germany is another where they have the word "dorfs". No disrespect was meant. Andy is a great guy & I have deep respect for him and the whole Jamaican culture. We want to go back as soon as possible - maybe you should visit to if you haven't been.

  • Lynden, That's what Andy called it. I think sometimes, particularly in UK influenced areas people still call their home towns "Villages" like "Dorfs, etc. for the German folks. That wasn't meant in any way as a bad thing. I think it's cool. If you like, give Andy a call at the number above and ask him.

  • As far as other locations to visit: Ricks Cafe (& the light house past it) in Negril is worth the drive to see the sunset. Dunns Falls in Ocho Rios is definitely worth it - but the "Swim with the dolphins" location is a rip off (Andy warned us it would be expensive) we got sticker shock when we got there (it's right across from Dunns Falls) - if you got to Dunns Falls - buy the shoes at the Columbus museum - they're cheaper - Rose Hal is interesting as well. Hope you have a great trip!

  • Hey, We hope you have a great time in Montego Bay. Andy is a great person & really knows the area well. His car is a little older (early 90's Toyota) but we had a blast - he can answer virtually any question you ask. We didn't get a chance, but wanted him to take us back to his village about 25 miles from Montego Bay & see how people really live. As far as things to do: If you like Jerked food - definitely go to Scotchies - the "Hip Strip" is worth driving through, but it's a bit overrated

  • Call Andy! He'll enjoy talking with you... Please tell him Steve and Wendy said Hi!
