The reason this revolution happened was that the workers did NOT live well! Only a very small minority lived well along with the American Mafia's meddling and manipulations. I think it's a tremenous achievement that the Cubans have been able to keep these cars running! You need to learn the full story. You say it can happen in the U.S. from President Obama what has he done wrong? you need to go blame Former president Bush. Fidel Castro and a man named Dr.Ernesto 'Che' Guevara seen that Batista was America's lap dog and wasn't for the people so yes some-thing had to be done. The only reason also that the 50s and 60s era cars are still in use in Cuba is because ''What isn't broken don't fix it'' we Americans might feel oh we need a new car every 2 years.

The reason these cars are old is because the US has a blockade on Cuba since '61, (hurts the people not the govt)..so Castro, who in fact idolized Mussolinni, (he was a fascist NOT a communist) had to sucumb to the overtures of the politically savvy Nikita Kruschev who saw a chance to get the US missiles in Turkey pointed at the USSR taken out...Yes! Castro's ego and paranoia has kept cuba in a black hole, but it has been helped by the hubris and imperialism of the US...
