Horse Trail was named by the Bureau of Land Management due to pack horses & mules taking this direct "as the crow flies" route down into the Black Canyon of the Gunnison Gorge. A local outfitter loads up his animals with rafting and/or fly fishing equipment and lets then go on their own. They all know the way and head out down the canyon. Doing so has made one hell of a short but fairly nasty trail which hikers and off-road bikes have found. It is now an existing trail just out of the Peach Valley Recreation Area located southeast of Olathe, Colorado.
