The Price of Sugar is a 2007 documentary by Bill Haney about exploitation of Haitian immigrants in the Dominican Republic involved with production of sugar, and the efforts of Spanish priest Father Christopher Hartley to ameliorate their situation. It is narrated by actor Paul Newman. The documentary shows the poor working conditions in the sugar cane plantations, and political control exerted by the Vicini family to stifle efforts to change the situation.

While the documentary highlights the efforts of Father Christopher Hartley to bring medicine, education, and human rights to Haitian workers, it also shows the widespread resentment of his actions held by Dominican people.

El precio del azúcar es documental del 2007 de Bill Haney sobre la explotación de inmigrantes haitianos que trabajan en la producción del azúcar en Republica Dominicana y los esfuerzos del sacerdote español Christopher Hartley para mejorar su situación. Es narrado por el actor Paul Newman. El documental demuestra las condiciones de trabajo en las plantaciones caña de azúcar, y el control político ejercido por la familia Vicini para sofocar esfuerzos de cambiar la situación.

Mientras que el documental destaca los esfuerzos del padre Christopher Hartley de llevar medicina, educación, y derechos humanos a los trabajadores haitianos, también demuestra el resentimiento extenso que sus acciones provocan en la poblacion dominicana.

No me gusta mucho la representacion en este documental, pero nos revela como es la exclusion estructural e institucional en el caso de imigrantes haitianos en RD. Se disolvio el mito de democracia de raza.
