Iraqi officials have stated that a recount of Iraqi elections has taken place, and that no fraud was revealed, which leaves The Iraqiya bloc, led by Eyad Allawi, as the party with highest number of seats in the Iraqi parliament. Hussain al Shaa'lan, a senior Iraqiya member said that the call for recount could have been made to prolong the period Al Maliki remained as head of the government, in a position where he could negotiate with the other blocs. This was clear as Al Maliki formed an alliance with Iraqi National Alliance, creating the largest coalition in the parliament, and leaving people with lots of guesses of whether Al Maliki will stay in a position of power after all.
