Ngwa Convention 08 DC Mgbede Dance by Ndidi

Anyways...

So I know there would be some people who might be wondering, "What is the Mbgede Dance???"....well the Mbgede Dance is for a female who is getting ready for marriage and/or has accomplished everything as a woman in life. Now pertaining to the marriage part, in traditional times the mbgede(female) will be kept in a fattening room for a couple of months keeping her away from her intended spouse before the big day(wedding). Now for accomplishments, this female has done everything she needs to do as a women. For example, my Great-Grandmother was the first women to perform the Mbgede dance around the entire compound in my Great-Grandfather's village. She had sewed allloott of yams and their were other accomplishments but I'm not sure what they were.

Why does she have umberella over her head?
Well the Mbgede is supposed to be pampered, the umberella is to keep the sun from making her sweat and that is another reason why everybody is fanning her.
