  • There is no contradiction. Paul demonstrates that works alone cannot please God: faith is the means. James agrees and is explaining what faith is -- faith is not mere intellectual assent -- otherwise the demons would be justified (2:19). Instead faith is trust in God that leads to good works (2:22). Mere intellectual assent (faith w/out works) is dead -- it has no power to save (2:20). Monica Dennington gets it exactly right.

  • @dzook777,

Whoops, you got caught lying. Romans 3:28 says faith apart from works, not faith and works. You didn't respond to James 2:14, which shows you are out of context, and James 2:19 does not say devils believe the Gospel, but only in monotheism. No devil assents to the proposition that Christ died for him--lol. Your Catholicism is pathetic. You sound like Clausewitz777. Now, go open another sock account.

  • I assure you I am not equivocating -- I am being serious and sincere. In what sense do you believe James is using these terms differently from Paul? It seems to me Paul made basically the same point as James: "For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live" (Romans 8:13). Christians must continue to choose to kill the deeds of the body, or else we will die. It seems quite clear.

  • @dzook77,

Your assurance is irrelevant. You are equivocating, for the first 3 chapters of Romans demonstrate that it is faith apart from any works (ceremonial, judicial, and / or moral) that justifies Coram Deo (the culmination is found in Romans 3:28). If your view of Romans is correct, there would be a logical contradiction in the Bible, but your view is not correct, and James 2:14 shows that by 'faith' is meant "profession," not belief. Hence, Sola Fide is the only consistent position.

  • @dzook7,

You are equivocating on the terms 'faith' and 'justified.'

James is using the terms in a different sense than Paul.

    Study Law / Gospel Distinction.

  • But James says distinctly: "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only. " James 2:24 This seems to clearly contradict your position.

  • I'm glad that someone is dealing with this. I was truly saddened to see Dennington teaching works-salvation. I am still hoping that she will reaffirm the true gospel of grace by faith, but I'm not holding my breath. Keep up the good work...this is no time for confusion about salvation in the church! God bless!

  • Thank You so much for this video!

    God bless You!

  • I've watched both videos, and I totally agree with you. Without exception, we would ALL be hell-bound, if judged by our works.

It would be extremely arrogant for me to think I was able to justify my place in heaven by anything I've done - no matter how kind or generous. Only by the blood of Christ, am I spared eternal damnation.

  • She is also confusing the Kingdom of Heaven with the Kingdom of God. There IS a difference. Look at the parable she uses in Mt 25:30 and then compare it to Lk 19. In Lk, the unfaithful servant is not thrown into Hell. In Lk, it is Kingdom of GOd,in Mt it is Kingdom of Heaven. There is much teaching on this subject, if not you can make the mistake she made and born again believers are thrown in Hell. The King of heaven is literal kingdom to come on earth, Kingdom of God is spiritual.Faith!
