On Friday, May 6, 2005 Sergeant Gerald Vick was shot and killed at approximately 0220 hours by two suspects while he was conducting an undercover vice investigation.

The officer and his partner were working on a prostitution case in several east side bars when they encountered two men near a bar at 7th and Forest Streets. The two men apparently were talking with bar patrons, possibly in an attempt to set up a robbery.

He and his partner spoke with the men and told them to move along. The officers then separated and went to their respective cars. When Sergeant Vick encountered the men near his car, they exchanged a few words before one of the men reportedly pulled out guns and fired several shots at Sergeant Vick. He was hit several times. His partner returned fire but did not strike the suspects, who fled on foot.

The suspects were apprehended later in the day and charged with first degree murder. One suspect was subsequently convicted of first degree murder and sentenced to life imprisonment in January 2006.

Sergeant Vick had served with the St. Paul Police Department for 16 years and was the agency's only three-time Medal of Valor recipient. He is survived by his wife, two children, parents, brother, and two sisters.

  • it's very very very disrespectful of youtube to remove this audio content on a video such as this. Youtube is going downhill really fast with all the copyright enforcement.

  • I see the guy who killed Sgt. Vick everyday at work... I can't even look at him without thinking you piece of shit. he is in there for life.

  • Thank you Sgt Vick, God bless your family!

  • Screw You-tube, can't you wait to get a complaint before you remove "Copyrighted" audio, what kind of douche-bag idot takes the audio off of an officer's tribute without an actual complaint?

People find some other venue like You- tube where they do not retro-actively remove audio.

    Beautiful tribute though.

  • THANK YOU SGT Vick for all you have done for St.Paul. I wish I could have met you. RIP.

  • I agree with midwestboxer....can't believe they took down music on such a beautiful video.

This was my favorite video of Jerry ~ and it SUX that youtube took off the music you added ~ it was a perfect tribute and the music was fitting.

What was the name of the song? I never knew it, but really liked it.

Is there any way you can re-do it? Sure wish there was...

  • midwestboxer, I agree with you 100% Sgt. Vick should be remembered and honored, copyright infringement or not, they should never remove audio from this.
