I'm a big fan of Bill Moyers (overall) but Uncle Joe tried to give him a non-Christian perspective...it was indigestible for the minister - and that's where religion infringes on logic. But we mystics tend to get this reaction from fundamentalists - they get VERY upset when words like "perennial philosophy" or "monomyth" are used, too. We are the "one true faith...THE PATH TO THE TEMPLE"...and any non-religious mystic knows they speak untruths

It's unfortunate that they chose one of possibly three or four contrarian moments (of a possible 2000 moments) in his discussion of mythology with Joseph Campbell. In an attempt to honour Bill Moyers they missed the essential epiphany of that entire series regarding spirituality and religion. I assure you their views on God were complimentary in a very great and important way in the canon of spiritual storytelling and God in general. Good comments below - sorry for reiterating.

The Power of Myth is a book and six part television documentary originally broadcast on PBS in 1988 as Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth. The documentary comprises six one-hour conversations between mythologist Joseph Campbell (1904 - 1987) and journalist Bill Moyers.
They brought out magic in each other. So Joseph Campbell, RIP, takes nothing from your comment as you obviously misunderstand the strength and affinity between these two.
