Patrick Aloysius Ewing (born August 5, 1962) is a retired American professional basketball player and current assistant coach for the Orlando Magic. He played most of his career with the National Basketball Association's New York Knicks as their starting center and played briefly with the Seattle SuperSonics and Orlando Magic. In a 1997 poll celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the NBA, Ewing was selected as one of the 50 Greatest Basketball Players of All Time.

In 1985, the NBA instituted the first ever Draft Lottery to prevent teams from deliberately losing games to secure a better chance of obtaining the ultimate prize, Patrick Ewing. The Lottery gave each of the 7 teams not in the playoffs an equal chance of securing the first overall pick. The New York Knicks won the Draft Lottery of 1985, and selected Ewing first overall.

He was named NBA Rookie of the Year, averaging 20 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game. Soon after he was considered one of the premier centers in the league. Ewing enjoyed a successful career; eleven times named a NBA All-Star, once named to the All-NBA First Team, six times a member of the All-NBA Second Team, and named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team three times. He was a member of the original Dream Team at the 1992 Olympic Games, winning a second gold medal. In 1996, he was also given the honor of being named one of the 50 greatest players in NBA history.

In 1999, Ewing became the 10th player in NBA history to record 22,000 points and 10,000 rebounds.

In 1993 he led the NBA with 789 defensive rebounds. He was top ten in field goal percentage 8 times, top ten in rebounds per game as well as total rebounds 8 times, top ten in points, as well as points per game 8 times, and top ten in blocks per game for 13 years. 11-time All-Star; One of 50 Greatest Players in NBA History (1996). 2-time Olympic gold medalist (1984, '92). • LOL. Overrated my arse. Patrick was an elite player that had excellent shooting skill. Best jump shot ever for a big man. He didn't just dunk all the time.

He did get dunked on sometimes because he was trying to defend the hoop against other elite players. He didn't complain. Just took it in and went on to business.

He did all what he did on bad knees and later in his career an injured wrist. Had he not been injured and got more games played his number would have been higher.

  • Possibly the most overrated player in the history of the NBA after Scottie Pippen

  • VeoShock, its good to see you make videos of retired NBA players we all like.

  • @fazman52 Amen to that. Sure he'd get dunked on...but they always knew he'd be there to meet them next time. Never intimidated, always intimidating.

  • @mcentepede reason he got posterised so much is cos he was always waiting in the middle, prepared to block any1 that came inside.....alot of todays big men hide like cowards, Patrick never hid from any1.

  • @ddonfro absolutely this man was the epitomy of 'carrying your team' and putting your team first before anything else. its a pity players today dont seem to share the same passion for the game itself.

  • way to bring the good times back VeoShock! hopefully we'll be seeing some more good times this year for the Knicks!

  • Loved his passion.

    Those days were good basketball.

Team came first. Not the paycheck.

  • @carlinrulez666 He is my favorite Knicks player too...even though he got posterized more than anybody back then.

  • no they foul the hell out of the knicks on that play .i counted 5 fouls on the arm of charles smith.
