I like the demo, the patient felt calm comfortable, but...
the person who filmed this should have stayed behind a barrier ...they might have been exposed to scattered radiation or at least stand 6ft away =0 & plastic barriers should be placed on the x-ray unit b/c of cross contamination w/ patients saliva when removing and placing film...
@haranda01 That's right. Neck collar is very important for thyroid protection, even more important than the "kevlar" for gonads protection, where the amount of radition is lower. The interaction with the kid was great!
@turquoisewoman Aww sorry to hear that! Have u tried chloriseptic, but make sure u are not allergic or can't take it in anyway. I've had patients that had really bad gag reflex and the doctor suggested spraying some chloriseptic to numb your throat a little or have a bottle of water and drink some water before getting your x-rays.
Dental assistant did great! X-ray machines nowadays aren't that strong and kids don't need too many x-rays so the thyroid sometimes just gets in the way, time consuming and unconfortable for kids. She had a great kid too.She didn't bit the DA or cried lol!
is there any other way to take x-rays besides the bite wings. i have an extremely bad gag relfex.i dont like the bite wings because when i do gag ove r and over i see the dentist face getting angry. thanks
blah i hate my dental radiology class!!!! never take DA classes at sjvc in visalia!

Where is your special thyroid collar to protect the patient's thyroid?

Working with kids is the most beautiful thing in the world. I also explain everything and try to be very gently with scared children (emergency etc.)

she said exactly all of the things that i say when i take radiographs for kids.... no thyroid protection tho, you should always use the neck collar.
